Split Words - find your own!
4 easy steps... An everlasting contribution to a vital cause...
1) You find an interesting Greek variant after perusing variant sources like these:
Very good general Greek variants site - English friendly General Greek variants - English friendly Alexandrian/Byzantine family variants - English friendly Greek New Testament with variants - Greek only Greek Gospel variants - Greek only Clarke's Commentary - some useful Greek variants
or you find the variant manually by perusing the Greek texts yourself, like these:
Greek New Testament with variants Greek New Testament (Alexandrian and Byzantine families) Greek New Testament (Western type) Greek/English WH/NA (Alexandrian type) GNT Interlinear Translation (+ linked lexicon) Greek/English TR (Byzantine type) GNT Interlinear Translation (+ linked lexicon)
or since you have no clue of the Greek, you found interesting variants among the English versions (then found that the English variant closely parallels a Greek variant), like these:
Bible Gateway - KJV, NIV, ASV and more Olive Tree Bibles - KJV, NASB, CEV, TEV, Greek texts and more E-Sword - Free Bible study software with many English Bibles Online Bible - Free Bible study software with many English Bibles and more
2) You look up the equivalent word in the Peshitta here:
Original Eastern Aramaic Peshitta New Testament Aramaic/English Peshitta Interlinear Younan Translation Western Peshitto with linked lexicon
3) You check the word/phrase from the Peshitta in online and offline Aramaic lexica/dictionaries, like these:
Aramaic Lexicon and Concordance (how to use) Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon (how to use) Western Peshitto with linked lexicon
4) You find that the Aramaic word in the Peshitta, or at least its root, covers both (or even more) meanings of the Greek variants.
Congratulations!
You have found your very own split word! I followed this general method and have found many split words, including very significant "4-way" (where 4 variants are distilled to one Aramaic word) and "7-way" (where 7 variants are distilled to one Aramaic word) split words, in a very short time. Other Peshitta enthusiasts, like Larry Kelsey, have also found many split words in this manner.
Split words are extremely strong proof for Aramaic Peshitta Primacy, as they explain how and why Greek variants came about - and of course, there never has been found a split word that goes in the other direction (impossible as there are exactly zero significant variants among the Peshitta manuscripts). Ironically, these big proofs are found very quickly and relatively easily, even by those with limited Aramaic and Greek linguistic knowledge. Why? Simply because there are HEAPS of Greek variants and many directly arose due to the differing translations from the Aramaic original.
If you find some, be sure to send them to me, as I will polish them up, publish them, and give you full credit for the legend you are.
